Before I started coaching and found balance in my life, the holidays always felt like a tug-of-war between enjoying myself and feeling guilty afterward.
I’d think things like, “I shouldn’t have eaten that,” or “I really should’ve worked out more.”
Can you relate?
Many spend busy seasons “should-ing” ourselves, feeling like we’re constantly making up for indulgences. We enjoy the moment, only to regret it later.
Here’s What I’ve Learned
Owning your decisions is a much healthier way to approach the season.
Instead of thinking you’ve broken some “rule,” what if you chose to enjoy yourself and moved on without the guilt?
I call this “mindful indulgence”—deciding at the moment to enjoy a treat or take a rest day because it’s what you want, not because you’re breaking a rule.
In fact, research supports this approach.
When you make intentional choices and let go of the guilt, you’re more likely to stay on track over the long term.
What This Might Look Like for You
For you, mindful indulgence could mean:
✅ Taking an extra rest day because your body needs it
✅ Enjoying a favorite holiday treat without planning to “make up for it” later
✅ Skipping meal prep one weekend to savor a dinner out with friends, guilt-free
Does this mean abandoning your goals? Absolutely not.
It’s still important to:
- Stick to your meal plan as much as possible
- Move your body regularly
- Prioritize rest, hydration, and mindfulness
But when you choose to indulge, own the decision and move forward. That’s how you keep progress sustainable, even during the busiest times.
Your Holiday Reminder
This season isn’t about perfection but balance, joy, and intention.
And when you permit yourself to enjoy the moments that matter, you build the foundation for long-term success.
