A useful technique that can help just about anyone at any age to discover their passion is to ask themselves a set of questions. Be sure to answer these questions in a distraction-free place, take your time, and truly be honest with yourself.
There are no right or wrong answers. You are the only one that will be reading the responses.
It is important to note that your life is a journey, and each day needs to be enjoyed to its fullest. You are not guaranteed tomorrow, and while passion provides a sense of purpose, the journey to finding it can be just as rewarding.
Do not stress, be grateful, and make it fun.
Question 1: What Makes You Forget to Eat or Do Other Basic Life Tasks?
This may not be that obvious until you do it, so always be ready and take notes in the moment. Practice being more mindful so you can catch it.
Passions are not as evident as everyone makes them out to be, but you can bet you may skip a few meals or must run to the bathroom last minute because you didn’t want to take the extra time when you’re doing something you love to do.
Question 2: What Has Been the Common Theme Throughout Your Life?
Are there events you always love to attend or help make happen? Are there things you always do for your friends or family? Are you the go-to person for something within your family, church, or work community outside of work? Look around and write them down. Ask your friends, colleges, and family members for help.
Question 3: Do You Have Any Skills That Come to You Naturally?
Are there things you can finish efficiently or understand quickly as compared to other people? If this does not come obvious to you, get out there, join classes or clubs and try something new each week. Maybe you are good at something right now that you’ve never even tried.
Question 4: What Kind of Things Do Your Friends and Family Reach Out to You for Help On?
What are things your peers or colleges always reach out to for your help or advice about? Maybe you give excellent dating advice or simply great at listening. Perhaps you make the best cookies ever, or you can write on the spot poems about a person. Take notice the next time they give you a call or ask them directly what they think you are good at doing.
Question 5: What Moment in Life Do You Remember Feeling Highly Confident in Your Abilities or Felt Overwhelming Happiness?
Is there anything you do in life that you know you can get done quickly without help? Do you ever feel excited and want to show off your abilities? These may be useful clues to highlight and write down if you do anything that feels wonderful to you, that is a clue.
These are only five of many more questions you can ask yourself. Dig deep and take the time to discover yourself. Only you know what motivates you and gets you going, so at the end of every day you still feel full of passion and joy.
