How To Improve Your Weaknesses

While improving your weaknesses shouldn’t ever be your focus, it is understandable that you want to improve them, and important that you do so. It may even be necessary for you to improve some of your weaknesses to get where you want to be in life. How do you do that?

Look At Using Them As An Opportunity for Improvement

Instead of dreading the use of a weakness you want or need to improve, look at doing so as a chance to get better. Practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes, and using a skill generally helps you get better at it.

This doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to convert all of your weaknesses into strengths. If say, you detest public speaking, you will probably never come to like it. But you can get better at doing it, which will help you tremendously!

Utilize Educational Opportunities

If practice will improve your skills somewhat, getting training will improve them even more. Look for ways to improve any weakness you want to work on. Software programs usually have tutorials. You can find books on just about any subject in the world.

There are courses on most topics available online or at your local college. Most skills-based education doesn’t even cost that much and might be paid for by your employer if you ask.

You can also attend seminars, conferences, workshops, and other training opportunities. Search the internet or talk to people you know to find these opportunities in your area.

Find a Coach or Support Group

If what you need is one-on-one help or something personal, you can hire a coach to help you with almost anything. This is especially true for interpersonal skills and challenges. Coaches can be pricey, but the investment can be worth it if it improves your weakness enough to help you in your career or personal life.

A coach doesn’t need to be paid, either. You may be able to find someone at work willing to coach you on how to do something you’re weak at. Some companies have formal coaching programs, but most such arrangements are informal and voluntary.

Such colleagues are worth their weight in gold, so be sure to do whatever you can to return the favor!

Finally, support groups meet in person to help their members improve skills such as public speaking. They are a good option for improving these skills and are often free or low-cost.
