You may now have a list of things to focus on, but there are still other things in your life that are going to demand attention that have nothing to do with your priorities. Like laundry, for instance. Laundry is on no one’s priority list, yet it still must be done, or you will soon not have any clean clothes to wear.
How can you still get these things done while focusing on your priorities? Or alternatively, how can you make sure they do get done while spending the time you would spend on these things on your priorities?
There are three ways to move these things off your plate and make more time for your priorities: Elimination, Delegation, and Outsourcing some or all of them.
Eliminate Where Possible
Not everything you are accustomed to doing needs to be done. Remember that you have decided to focus your attention on your priorities. That means you need to eliminate some things that are optional and take time away from your core focus.
That company baseball team you got talked into joining. The charity organization you do not feel passionate about. There is nothing wrong with these things, but if they are not aligned with your priorities, you can drop them with a clean conscience.
Delegate What You Can
Are there things on your list or in your life that need to be done but you personally are not required to do or attend to? If you look at everything honestly, you will probably find several such items. Delegate them to someone else.
This does not just apply to work either; for example, you may have older children at home who can start doing more chores, thus freeing up some of your own time.
Outsource What You Can Afford To
Most people have many ordinary life tasks that can be outsourced to other people. Unlike delegation, these are things that you normally pay for. Most people have long outsourced their lawn care, for example, but these days you can outsource all kinds of things.
Grocery shopping? You can use curbside pickup or delivery. Shopping, in general, can also be done the same way. You can outsource errands, housekeeping, you name it, and it is often surprisingly affordable to do so. All this time can then be taken and funneled into working on your priorities. You can find plenty of ways to save time for working on your goals. All you must do is look for it and get creative!
